Families, couples and individuals are invited to join our naturalists for these programs designed for a mix of ages. Take an exploratory hike, have some outdoor fun or participate in an indoor Nature House program to learn about and celebrate the natural world around us.

Snakeden Branch stream will be stocked with hundreds of Rainbow Trout. Learn how to bait, cast, hook and clean your freshly caught dinner.

Bring your toddler (ages 18-35 months) for a shared learning experience based on a monthly nature theme. Make crafts, sing songs, enjoy a snack and participate in activities that build a child’s motor and social skills. Parents, let our naturalist staff entertain and supervise your kids while you enjoy some time on your own. Your kids will love the combination of hands-on activities, crafts and games. They will enjoy a pizza dinner and make a fun dessert. We will take them on a short a night hike as weather permits. The evening will wind down with some nature show excerpts. Drop off your child at the Nature Center for a hands-on, fun learning experience. STEAM workshops integrate science, technology, arts and math education while encouraging problem solving, inquiry and creativity. Curious minds will explore a variety of nature topics, participate in laboratory investigations and make take home projects. These workshops are after school hours or on days off for student holidays/teacher workdays.

Pre-registration is requested. Beginning and expert birders are invited to search for birds in some of Reston's most beautiful natural areas. We will visit a variety of sites. Join us for the Annual Environmental Film Series co-presented by Friends of Reston. Feature length documentaries are screened for an adult audience. The films address local environmental issues, challenge us to think globally and celebrate the natural world around us. After each film, attendees are encouraged to share their reflections on the film and upcoming opportunities for engagement. FREE. Suggested donation $5.
